Opal Mag

Brighton’s Opal Mag puts all that’s best of her glittery grunge into new single ‘Love to See You Shine’, her second studio release. Her confidence in her stylistic artistry so early in her career speaks volumes about Opal Mag’s intent to draw on a niche. Drawing inspiration from Mazzy Star and The Sundays, Opal Mag’s sound is distinctly nineties in charisma. Her vocals are lofty yet gentle, in a haze of fuzzy, grungy guitar placing this single in a dreamy soundscape. The cloud of glittering dust that Opal Mag seems to reside in is mirrored in the video for this single, with the vibes of being recorded on an old video camera to solidify the nineties charm. The video is a perfect representation of how the single is meant to be perceived, cutting between a grungy live video (any Brightonians will know that white brick wall instantly,) and a polished glowing set complete with Lynch-esq red curtains and shining moon and stars.

This ‘ode to self-love and acceptance’ has been a long time coming according to the artist, and its release is an exciting addition to her discography, and a great insight into her trajectory in the coming months as she continues to curate her glamourous image as an electrifying addition to Brighton’s indie rock scene.
